PepsiCo Plans to "Brisk" its Brand Awareness on Super Bowl Sunday

One of America’s favorite pastimes and most celebrated dates of the year, Super Bowl Sunday, is also the catwalk for American brands and advertising. With a reported price tag of $2.8 to $3 million dollars for a 30-second spot, the serious exposure and ability to make an impact on American culture cannot be missed. Looking to make a big impact on the scene this year with its brands is PepsiCo.

Adage.com is reporting that PepsiCo has been expanding its purchases of Super Bowl spots, giving the soda giant a total of seven. Last year, PepsiCo purchased a minute for Frito-Lays while giving 3-4 minutes to its beverage brands. This year’s primary campaign for them will be the PepsiMax and Doritos “Crash the Super Bowl.” The rumor mill is churning out the idea that the seventh spot could be going to the up and coming Brisk Ice Tea brand. With a reported bump of 4 points to taking a 14% share of its market, this could be a major catalyst launching the brand into a market dominant position.

The recent Brisk campaign has been using clay-mation style figures that were popular in the ‘90’s featuring the product and an A-List celebrity. The first spot featured Danny Trejo talking his hit movie “Machete” while invigorated with the power of Brisk. Their most recent spot released today (Jan. 14) has Ozzy Osbourne promoting their product. The company says it has a couple more A-List Celebs inline and we could see them revealed during Super Bowl Sunday.

The original article can be found here.

The “Machete” spot can be found here.

Captain Morgan....The Workout?

If your new years resolution consists of hitting the gym more without giving up alcohol, this is the workout for you.

The infamous "Captain Morgan's Pose" is now featured in a "workout" video from Pereira & O'Dell and production company Station Film. No, it doesn't require you to simultaneously take swigs from the spiced rum while assuming the leg lift position, but it wouldn't hurt.

This workout (and I use that term loosely) might have you pulling a hamstring before it gets you breaking a sweat. Captain Morgan promises you results by repeating the "lift, hold and down" exercise...for only the left leg of course.

The opening credits advise pose participants against engaging in the workout while "operating heavy machinery, working in a mine with hazardous gases, preforming with predatory animals and geese, preforming any form of surgery, wearing tight fitting European swim trunks, yodeling, annoying bees, or whilst engaged in any form of political debate." Just in case you were thinking about multitasking.

If you get nothing else from this video at least remember the three things a pirate is famous for: looting, pillaging, and developing high intensity, low impact resistance training programs.

Although the workout fails, Pereira & O'Dell succeed in putting a funny new twist on the Captain Morgan ads we've seen time and time again.

De Niro Does Cannes

The Cannes Film Festival's organizing committee has announced that Robert De Niro will head the jury at this year's world renowned event. De Niro, whose latest film Little Fockers has grossed over $180 million since its release December 22nd, said he is honored to preside over "one of the oldest and one of the best" festivals in the world.

As president, the film festival veteran and the nine member jury will decide the winner of the Palme d'Or award. The prestigious award (meaning "Golden Palm") is the highest award given to competing films at the festival that runs from May 11th to 22nd.

De Niro, 67, is a New Yorker born and raised, which prompted him to found New York's Tribeca Film Festival. He is also the founder of Qatar's Doha Tribeca Film Festival.

The Oscar winner says he has an "increased appreciate for the jury who serve, undertaking an important role in choosing films that are represented in the world of film at its highest level. These types of festivals help connect the international film community and have a lasting cultural impact."

In 1976, De Niro's films Taxi Driver won the Palme d'Or and ten years later in '86 so did his film The Mission.

The Oprah Winfrey Network:

Trends for '11

Business News Daily interviewed consultants, thought leaders and small business owners to get a grip on the 50 trends and ideas for 2011. Here are some of the top ideas experts predict to be part of our everyday lives before the year is over. How many of these changes do you think we will see by 2012?

"We are entering a dynamic and creative era for retail, thanks to mobile. I fully expect mobile online shopping to become a mainstream consumer behavior in the U.S. over the next year or so."
— Mark Beccue, senior analyst of consumer mobility at ABI Research

"Media tablets will soar, with iPad holding a big lead in spite of lots of company. This year, we predict that the the media tablet phenomenon will continue to explode: more than 42 million devices will ship worldwide, strongly surpassing shipments of mini-notebooks (netbooks) — the market phenomenon of just two years ago."
— 2011 Predictions Team and IDC, a research company serving the information technology, telecommunications, and consumer technology markets

"If Gen Y gets its head on straight, we’ll be the most successful entrepreneurial generation in history. Future generations will then finally be taught entrepreneurship in school as mandatory curriculum versus an elective hobby. However, unless we stop listening to the older generations who do not and will never get it, we will become a truly lost generation."
Scott Gerber, entrepreneur and founder of the Young Entrepreneur Council

"In today’s cost-conscious business environment, demand for hybrid eventsa physical event with a virtual extension before, during or after the physical event takes place--will continue to grow."
Sharat Sharan, the President and CEO of ON24

"I would say Internet TV will only get hotter in 2011 as more Web-connected TVs come to market and companies make specific applications for use on the big screen."
— Morgan Seal, Clicker.com

"In the past few years, trends to catering to your pets have grown significantly. Companies have new policies where you can bring your pet to work, there are new pet day care centers that offices offer, and I think this trend will grow even further into ways to incorporate your pet into your business, whether it be marketing strategies, product integration, etc."
— Linsey Tilbor, 5wpr.com

"Many companies are "gamifying" their products and services. They are studying human behaviors, and then employing game-like reward structures. Competition, camaraderie and immersion, all of these will increasingly be applied to a business setting."
— Erica Orange, weineredrichbrown.com

"One of the biggest trends will be relating to products and services for older people. Sixty-five million Americans turning 65 and the age wave is beginning to create demand for products and services."
— Susan Towers, omhu.com

"I think successful businesses in 2011 will continue to use social media as a means of communicating with existing and potential customers. As more commerce continues to move online and mobile, virtual referrals, including customer reviews and recommendations from friends via Facebook and Twitter, will become increasingly important."
— Tom Warthen, prositewebdesign.com

"Cause-based businesses will continue to resonate with people in 2011. People pay attention to and spread the word about products that help others. It’s good for your conscience and your bottom line."
— Mason Gentry, FaucetFace.com
